The premise of Mr. Singh's application reads like a script from a bad Bollywood movie.  Actually.

I’m not sure why this article is being so vague about what “strikingly similar” means. The claimants story isn’t similar because the 200 people are all using a similar story, but because they use similar language, phrases, and structure in telling their stories. It’s perfectly reasonable that the stories are all true, but just that the consultant is using the same template to organize them all.

When everyone has a story they cannot provide evidence for under the assumption of corruption  of their native government it is easy to fabricate any story of persecution. This is also a easy back door to allow criminals and foreign disrupters into our country. I don’t know where the line is. Yes! Some people are desperate to go abroad, dont have the education or credentials, so they make up stories and seek asylum. This is very well known about some communities. It's not right imo.

Asylum claims are always assessed on a case by case basis. Most Indian asylum cases that reach the higher appellate courts in the US fail because India's huge and someone persecuted in one part of the country can expect to be safe far away in a different part.

I live in the UK (European national) with my Indian husband and have been many times to india and I don’t think Indians should claim Asylum but can see why they do, I have seen peoples living conditions who are just horrible but let’s be honest the poorest are actually hardly in a condition to travel and claim asylum 

Now the asylum system works in a way that everyone regardless of where from can put in a claim and it can be pulled out for years with appeals, while many countries are considered of course completely safe their citizens still have the full right of claiming and pushing it through the system so they can spend a long time in the UK before being removed if ever (I know an Indian guy who is illegally working here for years, send money back home to his wife and build a beautiful house in kerala and is now going back so it’s not just asylum cases) 

I know a women who is a us citizen who came here 3 years ago and is claiming asylum, she came with her children when she broke up with her ex claiming us laws don’t protect her right as mother enough, she is just appealing over and over again and went to the human rights court as well, lost every hearing so far of course and that really shouldn’t be allowed

Yes. And it is not just Indians who exploit the system. Many do it. And movies like Dunki glorify this majorly. All the countries fighting for stricter asylum rules are fair. They need to figure out a system to know who genuinely needs asylum and refugee status should be revoked in case people are non compliant and simply don’t want to work. Many don’t work and simply rely on govt aids. And then cause extra chaos by joining communist rallies. You have a whole working body, why don’t you want to work??? if you have religious or political persecution and your life is in danger. This is not a generic reason, one has to give sufficient evidence that his/her life is in danger. I would add journalists and rationalists too, because many of them get killed.

For example you publish something in a newspaper and you have credible evidence that a large business interest wants you to die.

Us uses asylum  as a tool of its foreign policy. Through agencies like the CIA and its business and NGO/religious organizations (see USAID), they create chaos in other nations. When these troublemakers fail, they seek asylum in the US. 

This is how US got Iranian refugees, Vietnam, Cambodians, Laos and many African and LatAm asylees.

There is nothing peculiar about these nut cases from India following the same path. Also there is nothing for India to do. Its all on the US.

I feel like this is a very complex topic. I do understand that India has a lot of the rights that many other countries don’t which would make it not right to claim asylum in most cases. 

But, there are some genuine cases where they deserve asylum. I am just giving some hypothetical examples which could be quite close to reality or they might not. So, if needed then take it with a grain of salt. 

As we know, there are many well off people, a large middle class population and also massive number of poor people in India. In addition to this, Indian society is extremely complex based on many factors like your skin colour, caste, creed, religion etc and people get judged based on many aspects. For example, while many dalits are well off in society, we do tend to see numerous of them from extremely poor backgrounds where even getting 2 meals a day would be difficult for them. There are still many places where untouchability is followed or dalits are discriminated against. It is very sad to see that even after more than 70 years of independence, we still struggle from these things. 

So, people who are genuinely needing support if it is difficult for them to live in India should be given asylum. But, most others who claim on various bogus grounds do not deserve it and the law should be very strict with them. 

It is a very complex matter and can rile up emotions at times as well but what I would say is that we should look into these things through the lens of empathy which can help us to understand the situation of another individual better.

Canada is now known amongst developing countries as the country that give the most free stuff to assylum claimants and that is the easier to get into.

The numbers will keep going up as long as it's the case. Canada accept most of refugees claims, you just need to look up, or get told, what to say to get accepted.

If you are making low wage in a country with poor conditions, having trouble to make end's meet, just get to Canada and claim assylum, you will be lodged in a hotel for free for 1-2 years while your claim is being processed (and 1 additional year for appeal if your claim is denied, although chances of denial are low). You will be provided a monthly allowance, healthcare. For poor people, the allowance, doing nothing, might be more than what you would have made working for almost nothing in your country. At worst if your claim is denied you will have lived in hotels, expanse paid by canadian tax payers, and will be sent back home free of charge.

Immigration even at current after peak rate is unsustainable, let alone how many refugees are being accepted every year, sincerely, economic refugees should be screened, only those high skilled and showing a strong will and making real efforts to adapt to the host country's values should be allowed in. A refugee, by definition, is someone fleeing from violence and a threat to their life. They're obligated to settle at the nearest safe place from where they're fleeing from, not halfway across the world...

Why is it not an auto deport? Come from a safe country or come here under false pretense your gone, your put into holding, no appeal and sent to your country of origin asap. I'm in education my partner is in healthcare and if the public knew how close these systems were to completely breaking the public would riot. This is already frustrating for me as a legitimate immigrant because I know how it can be a hard process for those who are genuinely doing everything right, meanwhile so many are being absolutely fraudulent liars and this also results in negative consequences to the immigrant community. The Canadian immigration system is being profundly violated. I can only imagine how depressing and revolting this must be for all Canadians who are seeing what’s happening.
